Welcome to our English language website
Born out of the French Revolution in 1790, the department has evolved into a collectivité territoriale, or local authority. Since decentralisation in 1982, the council has been the driving force in local administration.
With an annual budget of 370M€, Orne Council works to provide fiscal stability in the department whilst responding to the needs of each generation: helping families, ensuring high-quality secondary education, providing care for the elderly, working for the social inclusion of those in need and the disabled. We also work in domains such as sport, the environment and health. We undertake to provide excellent services that are accessible, responsive and sustainable.
With its architectural treasures, active cultural calendar, preserved landscapes and gastronomic delights, the Orne isn’t just the perfect destination for tourists. It also offers a wealth of opportunities for families and businesses looking to relocate. The council provides support and infrastructures for entrepreneurs and remote workers. In 2009, it also created the first departmental Anglo-French network in France. OrneLink brings together French and Anglophone residents from in and around the Orne for social, cultural and economic exchange.
