Family planning and information centres

Orne Council manages and funds six family planning and information centres in the department (Alençon, Argentan, Flers, La Ferté-Macé, L'Aigle and Mortagne-au-Perche).

The role of family planning centres

Family planning centres are a place where people (young adults, minors, people with no welfare cover, etc.) can come for advice, information and free consultations on sexuality and family issues.

Doctors and nurses are on hand to provide confidential information on:

  • contraception
  • pregnancy
  • abortion
  • sexuality and sexually transmitted diseases (hepatitis, AIDS, etc.)
  • relationships
  • family or parental issues

This preventive approach helps young people to avoid emergency situations. Each year, the medical and welfare teams visit secondary schools and colleges to provide information on contraception and sexually-transmitted diseases.

Medical consultations

The medical team is available, free-of-charge, for:

  • prescribing and monitoring contraception
  • emergency contraception
  • screening and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
  • AIDS tests
  • pregnancy testing
  • consultation before and after an abortion
  • pregnancy care for women in difficulty
