Social housing stock

The social housing stock comprises nearly 22,000 homes across 155 communes in the department. The main social landlords are: 

  • Orne Habitat. The departmental public office for affordable housing - habitations à loyer modeste (HLM). It manages 11,300 houses across 127 communes. Right hand of the Council’s policy of housing development, it favours the construction of pavilion-style homes and the renovation or demolition of housing blocks from the 60s to 80s.
  • The Société d’Aménagement et de Gestion Immobilière (SAGIM) owns 5,583 homes in 63 communes (principally around Alençon, Argentan, Flers et Mortagne).
  • Le Logis Familial has 3,500 homes (45% individual houses) distributed evenly between Alençon, Argentan and rural areas (around 70 communes).
  • Also working in this field are la Société Coopérative d'Intérêt Collectif habitat de Caen (SCIC) (835 homes), la Société Anonyme des Habitations à Loyer Modéré (SAHLM) de la Plaine Normandie à Alençon (407 homes), Seminor, Pact 61, SAHLM Atlantique, SAHLM Carpi, Sécomile.
